This business term loan calculator from Fieldcroft Business Capital, a small-business funding broker in Great Falls, Montana, estimates the monthly payment, total interest and total repaid on an amortizing loan from the amount, annual rate and term you enter. Results are arithmetic, not offers; lending partners set actual rates and terms.
What to enter
- Loan amount: the principal you would receive.
- Annual interest rate: the rate from a quote, or a rate you want to test.
- Term: the count of monthly installments in the quote.
The calculator assumes equal monthly payments over the full term, with interest charged on the declining balance.
Checking the arithmetic
To test the method only, not as an offer: a hypothetical $20,000 at a 10 percent annual rate over 36 months gives a monthly payment of about $645.34, total interest of about $3,232 and a total repaid of about $23,232. At a rate of zero the same loan would be $555.56 a month, which shows how much of each payment is interest.
What the calculator does not show
- Fees. Origination or documentation fees are outside the math; add them to the total by hand.
- Weekly or daily payments. The calculator works in months only. For a weekly schedule, multiply the weekly payment by the number of weeks to get the total.
- The amortization schedule. It shows totals, not each payment's split between interest and principal. Request the complete schedule from the partner.
- Merchant cash advances. An advance is not a loan and has no interest rate; its cost is the factor rate times the advance.
Our term loan page explains amortization and early payoff in more detail.
Reading the three results
The monthly payment is what leaves the account each month. Set it against a normal month's cash after other bills, not a good month's. The total interest is the price of borrowing; compare it across offers with the same term, since a longer term lowers the payment but raises the interest. The total repaid is the amount plus interest, the figure to weigh against what the project should earn over the same period.
Try two or three terms for the same amount. Seeing the payment fall while total interest rises makes the trade-off concrete before a partner's offer arrives.
When to use a different tool
Equipment purchases with a down payment, credit lines with draws, and advances with holdbacks all follow different math. For equipment, a partner's quote will show the financed amount after any down payment; enter that figure here as the loan amount. For a line of credit, the payment depends on how much is drawn and the partner's payment method, so this calculator gives only a rough guide for a fully drawn line repaid in equal installments.
Using it for a local project
Contractors pricing a shop expansion and store owners pricing a fit-out are typical users. Cascade County, MT counted 290 construction and 321 retail employer establishments in 2023 (County Business Patterns 2023). The construction page covers contractor needs, how a request moves explains what follows a real quote, and the other guides cover records to check first.
